Dr Narendra Chopde’s medical career began with his MBBS from the Karad Institute of Medical Sciences and MS in General Surgery from MUHS, Nashik. His fascination with the complexity of the gut and the surgical transformation potential of minimally invasive surgery led him to pursue higher fellowships in Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery and Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, both certified by MUHS. This dual specialisation makes him one among the rarest of Maharashtra’s surgeons to have two MUHS-recognised fellowships in these disciplines. At the professional level, he has also served as a Consultant GI Surgeon at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur, before venturing on his own by establishing his centre at Pune.
Dr Narendra Chopde of Dr Chopde’s Gastro, Liver and Obesity Clinic performs a range of complicated endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures such as ERCP, EUS, EMR, ESD, POEM, PEG, and metallic biliary stenting, and laser treatments for piles, fissure, fistula, and varicose veins. His list also consists of metabolic and bariatric surgery such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and
endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. His field of special interest includes hepato-pancreato-biliary illnesses, chronic liver disease, and inflam matory bowel disease. He is specially trained in the best centers such as CEMAST Mumbai, World Laparoscopic Hospital New Delhi, and Asia Institute of Gastroenterology, and has attended various international workshops organized by Boston Scientific and IFSO. He is a life member of Poona Surgical Society, DOSS, AMASI, and Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgeons, reflecting his active involvement in the professional association.

Dr Narendra Chopde owes a great deal of his success to his multi disciplinary team, and the team forms the backbone of offering holistic patient care. His spouse, being a preventive medicine physician and GI nutrition specialist, handles the diet and metabolic aspects of patient management. There is a coordinator who handles patient communication, and psychiatrists and psychologists help prepare the patients mentally and emotionally for surgery and recuperation. This inter-consultative practice mode makes sure each patient receives individualized treatment that suits their medical nutritional and psychological needs. “Surgery is not about operating; it’s about knowing the person behind the disease”, says Dr Narendra, highlighting his empathetic and holistic method.

An ardent believer in technology in medicine, he enthusiastically incorporates artificial intelligence and digital innovation into his practice. He uses AI-powered endoscopic technology like Olympus X1, which can detect pre-malignant and malignant lesions that cannot be seen with the naked eye. His dream for the future is that AI-based chromoendoscopy and capsule endoscopy will be able to diagnose, in addition to diagnosing, gastrointestinal disease in real time and at profoundly reduced rates of invasive procedures.

Dr Narendra Chopde aims to make Dr Chopde’s Gastro, Liver and Obesity Clinic, a fully integrated gastrointestinal care center with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, such as SpyGlass cholangioscopy, endoscopic x-ray machine, third-space endoscopy, manometry, and fibroscan. Nearly 80 percent of the services have already been put into operation, and the processes are going on to make it a one-stop center for comprehensive GI care. His dream is to provide world-class endoscopic and bariatric solutions to all Indian patients, regardless of geography and economic conditions.
