Driven majorly by the numerous government initiatives and countrywide infrastructure development, the Indian education system has undergone tremendous metamorphosis and evolved into one of the most sought after destinations for students to pursue their education in. There has also been a major shift in terms of student preference, wherein an increasing of them are now opting for courses in humanities, liberal arts and other allied verticals instead of the usual science or commerce field. With the industry witnessing tremendous growth globally and due to myriad of lucrative career opportunities that it offers, travel & tourism has emerged as a hot-favorite among students in recent times.

Amongst the numerous higher education institutes that are currently operational across India, one that stands out is Vishwakarma University (VU). A part of Vishwakarma Group which boasts 35+ years of academic legacy, VU was established in 2017 with a vision to impart futuristic and innovation-driven learning to students and empower them for the global opportunities that lay ahead in their lives. Today, the group’s reputation for its academic integrity, strong industry connect, and association with international universities form the cornerstone for VU’s long-term strategies, especially to create a learner-centric culture grounded in values.

Diverse Courses with Multidisciplinary Learning

VU offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs mainly across eight verticals – Art & Design, Architecture, Commerce & Management, Humanities & Social Sciences, Law, Media & Communication, Pharmacy, and Science & Technology.

Additionally, the university also offers PhD programs in Interior Spaces, Management, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Law, Psychology and English as well. This highly diverse variety of robust academic programs that it offers has enabled VU to create an inter disciplinary elective basked of programs called VU Level Courses, where students are encouraged to take-up at least a couple of courses outside their fields of education.
Modern infrastructure has been the foundation for VU’s pedagogy, wherein the university is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, design studios, moot courts, incubation centers, language labs, digital learning labs, and many other amenities. While digital design tools facilitate simulation-based learning, the institution’s LMS named VIERP enables teachers to create their own classrooms, upload course-specific learning materials and even conduct class tests. “Emphasizing on the employability, skill development, and real-world problem-solving of students, our entire pedagogy is built around the philosophy of ‘learning by doing’, supported by technology-enabled infrastructure and an interdisciplinary ecosystem”, says Dr Mukund Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, Vishwakarma University.

We continuously benchmark our curriculum with global best practices and sectoral demands to ensure that our students are industry-ready, globally competent, and adaptable to evolving career dynamics

Hands-on Industry Experience with Global Exposure

A key highlight of VU’s learning delivery is its razor-sharp focus on ensuring the industry-readiness of its students. The university has an industry advisory board comprising of stakeholders from every industry, right from industry experts to academic leaders from reputed institutions, alumni, and representatives from its global partnerships – the inputs of whom are collated to create a structured and outcome-based curriculum that is also tweaked regularly in accordance with the changing industry dynamics. While internships in relevant industries is mandatory across all courses, VU has adopted the concept of project-based learning, wherein right from the first semester, students are made to do a project depicting the practical application of concepts learned during that particular semester.

Partnerships and collaborations are yet another strongpoint of VU wherein it has academic tie-ups with numerous renowned international universities in the US, Canada, Germany, Peru, Thailand, Singapore and UK for student and faculty exchange programs. Further, VU also has MoU with renowned organizations such as IBM, Tata, Harvard Business School Online, Coursera and LinkedIn, where students are encouraged to take-up certification courses from, with the full course fee being paid by the university.

Star-studded Journey

Owing to its industry-benchmark practices, VU was conferred with the ‘Emerging University of the Year’ award at ASSOCHAM’s 13th Higher Education Conclave in 2020 and has been also listed in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings continuously for the last four years for its contributions towards UN SDGs.

Further, the university has also been featured in WURI Global Ranking for Innovation & Societal Impact and awarded the QS I-GAUGE Diamond Rating for its excellence in teaching, governance, employability and infrastructure areas. Most importantly, recognizing the numerous student & faculty exchange programs that it has with various international universities, VU has also been awarded by FICCI for its excellence in globalization of education.

When asked about the future roadmap for VU, Dr Mukund elucidates, “Our vision for the next decade is focused around growth (both qualitative & quantitative), global relevance, and societal impact. We’re looking forward to introduce new programs around AI, data science, sustain ability, digital integrity, healthcare and many other modern-day verticals. Research & innovation will remain paramount for us, wherein we plan to strengthen our multidisciplinary funded research for more intellectual property generation. Additionally, we also plan to further expand our global collaborations and come-up with dual-degrees, student & faculty exchange, and joint degrees with more international universities”.
