But when his dream of becoming an IAS officer went down the drain after failing the last attempt, a 28-year old Dr. Vinaya was staring at the career of a veterinary professional at private industry with diminutive salary and no hopes of growth. After chasing such humungous ambitions, this occupation felt like a dead end of his life, until the avid reader within him came to fore. “Books like ‘Stop Worrying Start Living’ penned by Dale Carnegie and a few books written by Shiv Khera burst me out of the negative attitude towards life and placed my attitude & confidence in right track.I still read books on personality development, management techniques and spirituality, which guides me through day-to-day activities and keeps me motivated to achieve more,” avows Dr.Vinaya. As he started exploring other options, BIONEEDS came into existence with single employee in a 100 sq.
ft.place.
Every entrepreneurial journey is filled with abundant peaks and valleys; finance is almost always the lowest amongst them. Being a first generation entrepreneur with zero business background, it was particularly daunting for Dr. Vinaya to source his finance. Fortunately, he had earned a loving family, friends and relatives, who provided him with economical and moral support in initial stage. Though this scientist turned entrepreneur had no formal management education background, he built it on practical applications. While his veterinary graduation strengthened his technical background for this entrepreneurial journey, working for five years gave him hands-on technical, operational and management skills, which still helps him in taking right decisions with confidence for the growth of the company.
Walking on those right decisions have taken the company to heights. Today after ten years, catering to almost all major pharma, biopharma, agrochemcial and medical device companies with his 220 employees, BIONEEDS stands tall as a Rs.100 crore company spread over 2,00,000 sq. ft. place in Karnataka (one in Bangalore rural district and another in Peenya industrial area). Judging by various national awards Dr. Vinaya has won, it is safe to say that his achievements in entrepreneurial arena didn’t go unnoticed. Adeptly steering BIONEEDS with a proficient management team comprising of Venu Madhava (CFO),Dr. Raghunath Reddy (COO), Dr.Sushobhan Das (CSO – Biopharma),Dr. Avinash Mane (CSO – Chemistry)and Sapna (Chief Business Officer), Dr. Vinaya advices his fellow peers to be focused and be a leader, because he firmly believes that a well planned work is half done. To encourage creativity, he gives abundant independence to his peers to take calculated risk and learn by trial and error. With unswerving confidence and trust in his team, Dr. Vinaya delegates responsibilities and has implemented checks and balances. This has helped him to stick to a realistic work-life balance, where he relishes family time not only on weekends, but every evening.
He indoctrinates his young kids to set a goal in life, not just in business or job, but with respect to qualities they should develop in life. And he elucidates to them to cultivate a good mind, body & heart. Kick-starting his mornings with 15 minutes of day planning followed by Pranayama, Dr. Vinaya ends the day with yoga, pranayama & exercises, followed by office activities such as checking mails between 11PM to12:30AM. Before recharging himself with a peaceful six hours sleep, he reads spiritual books for 30 minutes. A foodie, Dr. Vinaya loves to explore newer destinations as well.
As tasting the hard-earned fruit of victory has filled him with abundant business expansion skills and tremendous confidence, Dr. Vinaya aims to leverage both organic and inorganic growth strategies to usher BIONEEDS to the Rs.500 crore company club in next five years. Planning for growth and executing it being his favourite aspect of entrepreneurship, Dr. Vinaya is looking forward for consolidation of the CRO industry in India.
